About STAR Symposium

It has been recognized internationally that the research groups in Shanghai at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics - State Key Laboratory of High Field Laser Physics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and East China Normal University, and those in Tokyo at The University of Tokyo, RIKEN, Keio University, The University of Electro-Communications, and Tokyo Institute of Technology have made significant contributions in these years at the forefront of ultrafast intense laser science.

The Shanghai Tokyo Advanced Research (STAR) Symposium on Ultrafast Intense Laser Science is a symposium series launched by the research teams in Shanghai and Tokyo to develop and promote the advanced research activities in the universities and institutions in the two cities.

In 2009, the 1st Shanghai Tokyo Advanced Research (STAR) Symposium on Ultrafast Intense Laser Science was held in Tokyo, followed by the second meeting which was held in Xiamen, China in 2010. The two meetings successfully stimulated research exchanges between the Shanghai and Tokyo groups. The third of the series will be held this year in Odawara, Japan.
